FAQs
Here we list the top ranking questions for this site...
| Rank: 1 | My confirmation e-mail has taken several hours to arrive- what's going on? | The data you enter to regsiter is checked 'in person'! Even comic people have to sleep once in a while. The registration data is checked several times daily so you should never have to wait very long. Send a message via the 'contact' page if you have waited a long time. | Number of Times Asked: 6 |
| Rank: 2 | How much is a regular subscription to E-BIGS? | E-BIGS Gold is now an annual payment service. One year of our grading service, including the label database, costs only usd$14.99! | Number of Times Asked: 5 |
| Rank: 3 | Is there any way to make the floating control panel go away/close? I don't have a large-screen monitor, and it takes up too much space (for my tastes.) | Use the 'hide' button on the top right corner of the control panel. You will be left with a small floating graphic to open up the control box again. | Number of Times Asked: 2 |
| Rank: 4 | Can I sign up for a limited subscription period? | shortiE-BIGS was set up for people who want a short-term subscription; you would have to register again after the trial period runs out, however. The price is Five weeks for usd$ 3.99. | Number of Times Asked: 2 |
| Rank: 5 | How long did all this take to put together? | E-BIGS came together from an idea developed in April 2004. The first pages were written in early October 2004, as the museum pages will show | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 6 | Where did you get the images from? Some of them are great examples. | All the images used on the site are © Marvel Entertainment Group. I have owned all the books shown in the E-BIGS tool. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 7 | You should break down defects one by one and weight the accumulation. The issue is that corner wear is not always consistent all the way around. 4 corners with minor creasing/blunting can mean a 6.0, whereas 1 corner with a minor crease might be an 8.0. The way the system is now, both of these cases would get the same checkbox | This would be very difficult; the most practical way to approach the grade scoring is by 'a book is only as good as its worst defect'. If there were a reasonable mathematical way to average out defects this could be considered | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 8 | The one thing I think is noticably absent is paper quality. Paper quality is a huge thing to me | Very difficult with the medium of internet. E-BIGS is wholly visual, so elements such as 'snap' and paper suppleness cannot be illustrated. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 9 | I registered, but for some reason I can only access it with IE not Firefox. Is anyone else having this problem? | E-BIGS was tested rigorously (trust me!) with the latest versions of Mozilla (1.7.2), Mozilla Firefox (1.8.2), Opera (8.52.77) and Internet Explorer (6.0.29). Besides MSIE's inability to handle {position:fixed;} causing a bug with the scrollbars, there are no known cross-browser issues. Contact us if something doesn't look right. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 10 | Where you store your comics in the Database I can Drop Books but was wondering what the 'Show' does as I get no results with this hot spot (button). | The 'SHOW' button in the database list will open up a new window to display a label for the book you have chosen. For example, in my list there is a copy of Avengers #3. If I click on the 'SHOW' button it opens a new window with the complete label as saved, including grade, title details, PQ and hand-entered notes. The title of the new window is 'Avengers 3: Click to Print!'. If you don't get this window appearing you may need to adjust your browser security settings or popup blocker. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 11 | How does E-BIGS work? | Please see the TOUR page for more detail! | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 12 | Can you use E-BIGS to print mailing labels? | The main purpose of the printing option is to create a label to put inside the comic bag. In this way you can access the information about your book (including the interior Paper Quality - often referred to as PQ) without having to open the bag. You would not be able to enter address information to E-BIGS, except in the note section, and the majority of collectors would not want a lot of detail about the comic inside a parcel printed on the label. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 13 | Do you make allowances in E-BIGS grades for the age of the comic? | There are no deductions for age of the comic book as the condition is calculated on a purely objective/deductive basis - some books may look good for their age, and some may be yellowed or brittle but this depends on the storage conditions. The Church books and other pedigrees have shown that it is possible to maintain high PQ over many decades, so on a relative scale I see no problem with marking other 'worse' books down. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 14 | I was wondering if it was possible to either add to the publisher list or have the ability for the user to be able to input the Publisher should it not appear in the list. | If you find that the publisher of the book that you are grading does not appear on the dropdown list, please alert us using the 'Contact Us' link at the top of all the pages. The publisher will be added to the list as soon as we get your message. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 15 | Have you noticed if page color is not selected it will not be printed in the notes of the label when printed. I've noticed this in the past but never mentioned it and just thought I would ask if you knew of this. | This feature has been set up deliberately - if you do not make a positive choice out of the 'Interior Page Color' category, E-BIGS won't automatically add an interior page color note to the label. This is because we would not know what color your book's pages are and it would be very clumsy to keep having to change the notes if they said the wrong thing. There won't be any PQ note if you do not choose an example. | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
| Rank: 16 | I was curious when I save my graded comics to the database who can actually see them; me I know but do you have access to them also, because I leave some funny notes on them. | As a database admin I can get access to the comic label notes in the database but I'm not really one for poking my nose in there. Nobody will ever see your labels except you, or, most unlikely, myself | Number of Times Asked: 1 |
